Mangroves for the Future (MFF) Viet Nam is pleased to announce the launch of a Small Grant Facility (SGF). MFF is a partnership-led initiative to promote investment in coastal ecosystems. For more information about MFF, please visit: www.mangrovesforthefuture.org .

The SGF supports local community action for the conservation of coastal ecosystems with an initial focus in 2011 on mangrove forests. As well as providing direct environmental and livelihood benefits, SGF will support projects which offer practical models to inspire policy-making and thereby link the household and community level to coastal area management and policy-making. SGF projects should ensure the participation of women and other disadvantaged groups, at least at a demonstration scale.

Applicants can apply for grants of up to US$25,000.

Thematic focus

The SGF will support community based mangrove conservation projects that can help in one or more of the following areas:

· Build local capacity to implement sustainable development strategies.

· Create public awareness on environmental issues.

· Address livelihood, incomes, and equality and gender concerns.

· Demonstrate potential for replication or scaling-up, and co-financing.

· Create an impact on policy at local level.

Project proposals must explicitly integrate gender issues and/or address gender related concerns.

Proposals can be submitted by NGOs, CBOs, research centers, and educational institutions with operations in Viet Nam that meet the following criteria:

· Are registered, preferably for at least two years (see template in annex 2).

· Have a proven or strong potential capacity to implement community-based projects.

· Have a proven record of working with local communities in a participatory way.

· Can demonstrate experience in project management and financial administration.

Implementation period

Up to 24 months.

Selection process

Applicants should submit a project concept note (template in annex1) in English or/and Vietnamese. Short listed applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal. Please note that an invitation to submit a full proposal is no guarantee that it will be financially supported by the MFF. The deadline for the submission of pre-proposals is March 31, 2011. Applicants should send concept notes by email to: Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hien, MFF National Coordinator, 44/4 Van Bao, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
